Craftybegonia's Shell Rick Rack

Best Blog Tips

If there is anything that lends itself for creativity is children's clothing. My mom has been making little girls' dresses for charity and I promised to lend a hand when it came to "decorating" them. So I have. This is one of our creations. I added the edging and chose the teddy bear buttons from my stash and sew them on. I think the dress is darling and it will make very happy an otherwise sad little girl. That in itself is a source of joy to us.
I'm sharing the pattern of this rick rack with you. You might find it useful for a myriad little things: pillowcases, hand towells, hankies, curtains, but especially, little girls' tops, skirts and dresses. It is very easy and it works up really fast. Here it is:

Materials:
Crochet #10 cotton in color of your choice, I used Victory Red
#1 silver hook
Note: This rick rack works upwards not lengthwise. I find that more practical when you have to make a length of trim, if you have to go further, you don't have to undo your work, it you made to much you can always adjust.
Ch 5, on 5th ch from hk, make 1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc, ch 1, turn. Wind thread around hook, insert hook in the middle of the shell already made (2 dc on either side), make 1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc, ch 1. Repeat for as long as you need to for the edging's length.
