Knockout Magenta Scarflet

This is a pretty scarflet which is very easy to make. The different directions of crocheting it add interest to this feminine scarflet. I made it in two sittings, so if you are an intermediate or advanced crocheter, this one's a breeze!

Materials:

1 skein Red Heart worsted weight yarn Magenta
Crochet hook size H
Scissors
Blunt needle

With H crochet hook and Magenta, ch 43.
Row 1- 1 hdc in 3rd ch from hook and in each ch across. Ch 2, turn.(40 hdc)
Row 2- 1 hdc in each hdc across. Ch 2, turn. (40 hdc)
Rows 3 to 14- Rep row 2. Ch 1. (40 hdc)
Sides-
Side #1-

Row 1- Work 18 sc across narrow edge of scarflet. Ch 1, turn. (18 sc)
Row 2- 1 sc in each sc across. (18 sc) Ch 2, turn.
Row 3- 1 hdc in each sc across. (18 hdc) Ch 3, turn.
Row 4- 1 dc in each hdc across. (18 dc) Ch 2, turn.
Row 5- 1 hdc in each dc across. (18 hdc) Ch 3, turn.
Rows 6 to 15- Continue to alternate 1 hdc row and 1 dc row, ending with an hdc row. Ch 4, turn.
Row 16- 1 tr in each of next 3 hdc, ch 9, skip 9 hdc, 1 tr in each of last 5 hdc. (Keyhole made)
Row 17- 1 dc in each tr and in each ch across. Ch 1, turn.
Lace Edge-
Row 1-
1 sc in first dc,ch 5, skip 4 dc, 1 sc in next dc, ch 6, skip 6 dc, 1 sc in next dc,
ch 5, skip 4 dc, 1 sc in last dc of row. Ch 5, turn.
Row 2- 1 sc in 3rd ch of ch-sp, ch 2, 1 dc in next sc, ch 2, 2 dc in 3rd ch of next ch-6 sp, ch 2, 1 dc next sc, ch 2, 1 sc in 3rd ch of next ch-5 sp, ch 3, 1 dc in last ch of ch-5 sp. Ch 3, turn.
Row 3- 3 dc in next ch sp, 1 dc in next sc, 1 dc in next ch sp, ch 2, 1 sc in next dc, 3 dc in next dc, ch 1, 3 dc in next dc, 1 sc in next dc, 1 dc in next ch sp, 1 dc in next sc, 2 dc in next ch sp, 1 dc in top of turning ch. Ch 3, turn.
Row 4- 1 dc in each of next 3 dc, ch 1, skip to first dc in center shell, 1 dc in that dc, ch 1, skip 2 dc, 1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc in center ch-1 space of center shell, ch 1, skip 2 dc of shell, 1 dc in last dc of shell, ch 1, 1 dc in each of last 4 dc of row. Ch 3, turn.
Row 5- 1 dc in each of first 2 dc, ch 1, 1 dc in next dc, ch 1, 1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc, in first ch-1 sp, 1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc in next ch-1 sp, ch 1,
1 dc in next dc, ch 1, 1 dc in each of last 3 dc. Ch 3, turn.
Row 6- 1 dc in each of next 2 dc, ch 1, 1 dc in next dc, 1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc, ch 1, in center chain space of first central shell, 1 dc, ch 1,
1 dc in center of next ch sp of shell, ch 1, 1 dc in next dc, ch 1, 1 dc in each of last 3 dc. Ch 3, turn.
Row 7- 1 dc in each of next 2 dc, ch 1, 1 dc in next dc, skip to chain sp in central shell, work 1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc in that ch sp, ch 1, 1 dc in
next dc, ch 1, 1 dc in each of last 3 dc. Ch 3, turn.
Row 8- 1 dc in each of next 2 dc, ch 1, 1 dc in next dc, skip to third dc of central ch, work 1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc in that ch sp,
1 dc in next dc, ch 1, 1 dc in each of last 3 dc. Ch 3, turn.
Row 9- Rep row 8.
Row 10- Rep row 8.
Row 11- Rep row 8.
Fasten off, weave in tail.
Side #2-
Join Magenta to opposite side of narrow end of scarflet.
Row 1- Work 18 sc across narrow edge of scarflet. Ch 1, turn. (18 sc)
Row 2- 1 sc in each sc across.
Rows 3 to 15- of first side, ending with an hdc row. Ch 4, turn.
Row 16- 1 tr in each hdc across. Ch 3, turn.
Row 17- 1 dc in each tr across.
Lace Edge-
Repeat lace edge as for first side.
Fasten off, weave in tail.

Explanatory note about this pattern: As you can see on the photos, this pattern is made as follows: 1. You make the back first.
2. Then, once you have the portion that belongs to the nape of your neck done, you start with the sides (side 1 and 2), each one, of course, worked on either side of the piece you already made for the back. Finally, you work the lace at the edge of each side.
